step 1 - subtract 24 to get
12x%5E2-23x-24=0
step 2 - use the quadratic to get
x+=+%2823+%2B-+sqrt%28+529-4%2A12%2A%28-24%29+%29%29%2F%2824%29+
then
x+=+%2823+%2B-+sqrt%28+1681%29%29%2F%2824%29+
and then
x+=+%2823+%2B-+41%29%2F%2824%29+
So,
x = 18/24 = -3/4
or
x = 64/24 = 8/3
