Question 22973: Factor; 5y^4 +10y^3 - 35y
Answer by stanbon!(97) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Look at the coefficients.
Do you see that "5" is a common factor of 5, 10, and 35?
Now look at the y's.
Do you see that y is a common factor of y^4, y^3, and y?
So the common factor for the three terms in your problem
is 5y.
Divide thru by 5y to get the other factor as follows:
5y(y^3+2y^2-7)
If this 2nd factor was further factorable we would do it.
I don't think at the level you are at you would want to
see how that is done using the quadratic formula. So,
we'll just leave the answer as 5y(y^3+2y^2-7)
