3x^3-2x^2+x-1
x-5 divides into it 3x^2 times with 3x^3-15x^2. Change signs and add to get
17x^2+x-1
x-5 divides in 17x times with 13x^2+66. Change signs and add to get
66x-1
divides in 66 times to get 66x-330. Change signs and add to get
R329 ANSWER

This problem is to use the "Remainder theorem".



The Remainder theorem says that the remainder of division of a polynomial

    f(x) = a%5B0%5D%2Ax%5En+%2B+a%5B1%5D%2Ax%5E%28n-1%29+%2B+ellipsis+%2B+a%5Bn-1%5D%2Ax+%2B+a%5Bn%5D

by a binomial (x-a) is equal to the value of the polynomial f(x) at x= a, i.e. f(a).



So, in your case, to find the remainder of division the given polynomial

    f(x) = 3x%5E3+-+2x%5E2+%2B+x+-+1

by (x-5), you need simply calculate


    f(5) = 3%2A5%5E3+-+2%2A5%5E2+%2B+5+-+1 = 329.


Answer.  The remainder of division the given polynomial by (x-5) is equal to  329.
