Question 1014082: Word Problem: A small pipe takes 4 more hour to fill a pool than a larger pipe. The two pipes were opened at the same time to fill a pool with water. After 3 hours, the larger pipe was close. It took two more hours for the smaller pipe to complete filling up the pool. How many hours will be needed for each pipe to fill the pool alone?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
             RATES
Large pipe 1/x
Small pipe 1/(x+4)
Both pipes 1/x+1/(x+4)

RT=V rule for filling rates and volume.
You can assume the amount of volume to be 1 POOL for this fill rates exercise.

Three hours both pipes, and then 2 hour for just small pipe to finish the 1 pool.

Some algebra steps, but just solve for x.
