Question 143435: 2. You are trying to decide how to most efficiently use your oven. You do not want the oven running at a high temperature when it is not baking, but you also do not want to waste a lot of time waiting for the oven to reach the desired baking temperature.
The instruction manual on the industrial oven suggests your oven temperature will increase by 45 degrees Fahrenheit per minute. When the over is initially turned on, the temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit. What will the temperature of the oven be after 7 minutes? Write an expression and explain how you arrived at your answer.
Now HOW do I figure and write this expression? Help please.

Question 143436: WIll someone please help me with this word problem? I do not understand these AT ALL???? Please and thank you all for your help. It is much appreciated.
In your industrial oven, you bake two baking sheets with 12 scones each, two baking sheets with 20 cookies each, and one baking sheet with 2 scones and 10 cookies.
Write an expression that illustrates the total cost of all baked goods in the scenario above using the variable s to represent the cost of scones and the variable c to represent the cost of cookies. Simplify your expression by combining like terms.
Suppose you have decided to price the scones at $2.28 each and the cookies at $1.19 each. How much total revenue would result from selling all the scones and cookies baked in the oven at one time?

Question 143562: Just need help with d), unless of course the others are wrong. Which very well could be. Any help would be of help. Thank you.
What are the intercepts of the equation from part a of this problem? What are the intercepts from part b of this problem? Where would the lines intersect if you solved the system by graphing?
1. Suppose you are in the market for a new home and are interested in a new housing community under construction in a different city.
a) The sales representative informs you that there are two floor plans still available, and that there are a total of 56 houses available. Use x to represent floor plan #1 and y to represent floor plan #2. Write an equation that illustrates the situation. x + y = 56
b) The sales representative later indicates that there are 3 times as many homes available with the second floor plan than the first. Write an equation that illustrates this situation. Use the same variables you used in part a. x = 1x y = 3x
c) Use the equations from part a and b of this exercise as a system of equations. Use substitution to determine how many of each type of floor plan is available. Describe the steps you used to solve the problem. x = 14 y = 42
d) What are the intercepts of the equation from part a of this problem? What are the intercepts from part b of this problem? Where would the lines intersect if you solved the system by graphing?

2. As you are leaving the community, you notice another new community just down the street. Because you are in the area, you decide to inquire about it.
a) The sales representative here tells you they also have two floor plans available, but they only have 38 homes available. Write an equation that illustrates the situation. Use x and y to denote floor plan #1 and floor plan #2 respectively. x + y = 38
b) The representative tells you that floor plan #1 sells for $175,000 and floor plan #2 sells for $200,000. She also mentions that all the available houses combined are worth $7,200,000. Write an equation that illustrates this situation. Use the same variables you used in part a. $175000x + $200000y = 7200000
c) Use elimination to determine how many houses with each floor plan are available. Explain how you arrived at your answer.

Question 143674: I have been trying this equation and just can't seem to get it. I have been asked to solve and reduce to a quadratic form. My first answer was 8 sq root u +12=0. But I do not think that is correct. I am to use "u" as a substitute for some variable in the equation. I have chosen U to substitute for (t+4). If anyone can let me know if I am in the right direction or how to solve this, much appreciated.
(t+4)^2/3 + 7(t+4)^1/3 +12=0.
This is what i did. 3rd root (u^2) + 7 * 3rd root u +12 =0
3rd root (u squared) + 7 * 3rd root U + 12=0
(1+7) 3rd root U + 12 =0
8 3rd root u = -12, 3rd root u = -12/8 reduced to -3/2
Final answer -3/2+ 3rd root u or -3/2-3rd root u
I have no idea what I am doing here, so any help is appreciated. Thanks.
