Question 1010854: I have a big problem with a quadratic cost function for a firm.
The cost function is 0.22222(q)^2
The price in the market is 8 (horizontal price line), and the point where these two lines intersect is the profit maximum. It should be an output quantity of 6, this is what the graph shows.
But, when I use mathematics to solve it, I have to differentiate the profit function 8q - 0.22222(q)^2 (ends up as 8 - 0.44444q) and set it equal to zero....and I end up with a weird answer for q, namely 18.00018. Anyone with mathematic economic experience help me out? I know this goes a little beyond just quadratics.

Question 1011055: Jack is trying to buy a sprinkler to water the middle of his garden. He wants it to sprinkle in the shape of a circle. The garden is a rectangle. There are three parts to this problem btw. \
l= 4x-2
w= x, then its split into the middle, and then in the middle where its split the measurement is 4x-2, and then again with x. I know its not very good and my friend knows about this site, but I dont want him to get under the impressions that this would be cheating. If there is a way I could upload a picture to this, I'd like to know. Maybe I could e-mail a picture?

But yeah, in the middle there is a are two lines going from top to bottom, and in the middle of the two lines, it says 4x-2 and on the outside it says x. there are 3 different parts as well.

a) make a polynomial to model the area of the entire lawn.
A = ?????

b) make a polynomial of the part of the garden being watered (the circle).
I dont remember this part. or the first.

C) write a polynomial to model the area of the lawn that is not watered. use 3.14 for pi.
I know in this one you subtract the polynomials of A and B.
