Question 627887: Not sure why I am not understanding these problems. Might just be the new medication I am on. Please help me.
1) Little City Air Tran had a passenger reduction and lost 1/6 of its passengers. If 110 remain after the reduction, how many were there originally?
2)A box contains 37 coins consisting of pennies, dimes, and quarters, the total value is $2.23. How many pennies (equal to the amount of dimes) are there? How many quarters are there?
3) A crew receives a check for $4250 for a job. A journeyman makes 300% of what an apprentice makes, and a master makes 150% of what a journeyman makes. How much does the apprentice make? How much does the master make? How much does the journeyman make?
Would really appreciate it if someone would help me. I have tried working these problems and the answers I get do not seem correct. For instance in problem 1) I was getting 660 for the original number of passengers.

Question 628033: 1. Suppose you are an event coordinator for a large performance theater. One of the hottest new Broadway musicals has started to tour and your city is the first stop on the tour. You need to supply information about projected ticket sales to the box office manager. The box office manager uses this information to anticipate staffing needs until the tickets sell out. You provide the manager with a quadratic equation that models the expected number of ticket sales for each day x. ( is the day tickets go on sale).
- 0.4x2 + 13x + 14
a. Does the graph of this equation open up or down? How did you determine this?

b. Describe what happens to the tickets sales as time passes.
c. Use the quadratic equation to determine the last day that tickets will be sold.
Note. Write your answer in terms of the number of days after ticket sales begin.

d. Will tickets peak or be at a low during the middle of the sale? How do you know?

e. After how many days will the peak or low occur?

f. How many tickets will be sold on the day when the peak or low occurs?

g. What is the point of the vertex? How does this number relate to your answers in parts e. and f?

h. How many solutions are there to the equation? - 0.4x2 + 13x + 14. How do you know?

i. What do the solutions represent? Is there a solution that does not make sense? If so, in what ways does the solution not make sense?

Question 629142: My problem is I don't know how to read the answer given in a Quadratic graph example, Where the curve cuts the x axis, the answer was about 4.37, -1.37,
or Where the curve and line cross read the x value about 5.54 and -0.54.
Ok I can understand an example that shows where a parabola cuts the x axis at 2 points say 3 and -3, I just don't understand where the 2 extra numbers are coming from in something like 5.54 and -0.54? I would be guessing thinking say 5.54 I would first go to 5.5 on the x axis? I'm guessing its read 5.5 being halfway between 5 and 6, but where does the 4 come from? or in the first examples where does the 7 come from?
Thanks
