Question 979462: need help here , please..
1. In about 825 AD , Mohammed ibn Musa Al khowarzimi used this figure to solve the
quadratic equation x^2 + px = q
a.) How long is the side of the largest square?
b.) Explain why the total unshaded area is q
c.) Write an equation stating that the area of the largest square
is the same as q plus the total area of the shaded squares. Take the positive root of both sides and then solve for x. Why do you think al khowarzimi would only
find the positive root of the equation?
d.) Using the equation derived with al khowarzimi's method, find the
positive root of x^2 + 8x = 11
thanks everyone
