Question 931540: How do I solve this word problem? Using the formula a^2+b^2=c^2
You're locked out of your house and the only open window is on the second floor, 26 feet above the ground. You need to borrow a ladder from one of your neighbors. There's a rose garden along the edge of the house, so you'll have to place the ladder 9 feet from the house. What length of ladder do you need to reach the window?
I have attempted to solve but I am stuck with 26^2+9^2=c^2 =676+81=757 Do I square 757?
Please help...thanks in advance

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You need a ladder length, c that when squared gives you c%5E2=757 ,
so you calculate the square root of 757 :
c=sqrt%28757%29=about27.514 (rounded).
