Question 878551: Hello, i was wondering if someone could help me out with this word problem. Im very confused and i just cant seem to figure it out.

If a rectangular billboard is to have a width of 20 feet, what should its length be so that it is a golden rectangle? round to the nearest tenth. This is the formula that was given to me L/W= W/L-W. I tried L/20=20/L-20 but i cant seem to figure it out, thank you.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
How accurately do you want to know the length?
The golden ratio is 1:%281%2Bsqrt%285%29%29%2F2.
Decide which part you want corresponding to your 20 foot width.

The ratio can also be approximated as 1 to 1.618.

If you want the width to be shorter than the length, then w%2FL=1%2F1.618. If you want the width to be longer than the length, then L%2Fw=1%2F1.618.
