Question 862476: x^2+24x+144=0
How can I figure out the integral roots? Every time I try solve it, I get a straight line instead of a parabola. Answer by josgarithmetic(39617) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Two things would be interesting to know:
What do you understand about solving quadratic equations?
What were your solution steps made so far?
Solving will only rely on factoring the quadratic trinomial. You want two numbers whose product is 144 and whose sum is 24. This should be uncomplicated to find.
Let me further say, you have a square trinomial!
----
Student: I saw your note. Let me emphasize again, IS A SQUARE TRINOMIAL! This means, for some number r, and for some numbers b and c, .
You then had identified the correct numbers, r. You are (or maybe no longer) stuck at a false obstacle, and only you know why. You will probably simply find the obstacle suddenly disappears and you may not understand why you were stuck.
