The question is - when you take 2 numbers and add them you get 4, but multiply, you get 3. Only 3 and 1 do this.
So (X+3)(X+1)= 0 and the solutions for x are -3 and -1

we will solve by factoring
we want factors of 3 that add up to 4
3 and 1 add up to 4
(x+3)*(x+1)=0
x=-3
x=-1
