the perimeter (2L+2W) of the fence is 188, so L+W=94 ... and W=94-L ... so the area (L*W) is also L(94-L) or 94L-L^2

A=94L-L^2 is a downward opening parabola ... the maximum value for A lies on the axis of symmetry

the general equation for the axis of symmetry is x=-b/2a or in this case L=-94/-2 or L=47

A=94*47-47^2 ... A=2209 sq.ft.
