Hi,
(x + 4)^2 - 9 = 0 || Isolate the Squared Term
(x + 4)^2 = 9 || Taking the Square Root of both sides of the EQ
(x + 4) = ± 3
x = -4 ± 3
x = -7 or x = -1 (-7,0) and (-1,0) the x-intercepts of this Parabola

Solve for x:
%28x%2B4%29%5E2-9+=+0 Add 9 to both sides.
%28x%2B4%29%5E2+=+9 Take the square root of both sides.
x%2B4+=+3 or x%2B4+=+-3 Subtract 4 from both sides in each solution.
x+=+-1 or x+=+-7

Add 9 to both sides.

Take the square root of both sides (don't forget to consider both the positive and negative square roots).

Separate into two equations, one with the positive root and one with the negative root.

Add -4 to both sides of each of the separated equations to obtain one of the two roots from each.

Check both roots in the original equation.
