I'll do part a) to get you started



x=1 or x=-2 Start with the given solutions.


x-1=0 or x%2B2=0 Get everything to one side so that only 0 remains on the right side (for both equations).


%28x-1%29%28x%2B2%29=0 Use the zero product property to combine the equations.


x%5E2%2Bx-2=0 FOIL out the left side.


So the answer is x%5E2%2Bx-2=0


To check your work, simply solve x%5E2%2Bx-2=0 for x.

Doing so will show you that the solutions are x=1 or x=-2, which confirms the answer.
