You may remember that when we want to find an algebraic solution to a quadratic equation, we must first set the equation equal to zero, then solve for x. So when you look at a graph of a quadratic equation, the solutions are where the curve crosses the x-axis. The x values at these points makes the equation equal to zero. These x values are called zeros or roots. Note that if there is no crossing of the x-axis, there is no real number solution.
