Replace each y by 0, and solve for the corresponding x-values.
0+=+x%5E2+-+1 ==> x%5E2+=+1==> x-intercepts are -1, 1
The discriminant 4-4*1*35 = 4 - 140 = -136 < 0 ==> there are no x-intercepts for the second function.
For the third, (x - 1)(x - 2) = 0 ==> x-intercepts are 1,2
