so, x=y%2B5
Four years ago the sum of their ages was 65
x%2By%2B4=65
x%2By=65-4
x%2By=61........replace x=y%2B5 and find y
y%2B5%2By=61
2y=61-5
2y=56
y=56%2F2
y=28.........now find x

x=y%2B5
x=28%2B5
x=+33

so, Shelly is 33 years old and Michele is 28 years old
