Okay from x^2 + 7x + 6 = 0, we identify
a=1, b=7, and c=6...now plug in to the quadratic and get
x = (-7 ± sqrt(7^2 - (4)(1)(6))) / 2
x = (-7 ± sqrt(49 - 24)) / 2
x = (-7 ± sqrt(25)) / 2
x = (-7 ± 5) / 2
x = -2/2 = -1
and
x = -12/2 = -6
