Question 379966: I have to find the zeros or roots of each function or equation by factoring & graphing.
g(x)= 2x^2 - 25x + 12
2(x ) (x )
I know that the multiples of 12 should add up to -25 but there are none so I do not understand how to find the zeros by factoring Found 3 solutions by robertb, stanbon, mananth:Answer by robertb(5830) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Find the zeros or roots of each function or equation by factoring & graphing.
g(x)= 2x^2 - 25x + 12
---
Think of two numbers whose product is 2*12 = 24
and whose sum is -25.
------
The numbers are -24 and -1
----
Rewrite the problem:
2x^2 -24x-x +12 = 0
---
Factor the 1st two and the last two terms separately:
2x(x-12)-(x-12) = 0
Factor again:
(x-12)(2x-1) = 0
----
x = 12 or x = 1/2

You can put this solution on YOUR website! g(x)= 2x^2 - 25x + 12
...
it is multiples of 24 and not 12. 2*12
..
2x^2-24x-x+12=0
2x(x-12)-1(x-12)=0
(x-12)(2x-1)=0
x=12 OR 1/2
