If someone could be so kind as to lead me through (with all the steps) the following problem, I would be most appreciative.
The directions are: Solve the equation by the square root property.

first you need to get x%5E2 by itself.
6x%5E2=96
divide by 6
x%5E2=16
take the square root of each side
sqrt%28x%5E2%29=sqrt%2816%29
x%2Ax=x%5E2 and 4%2A4=4%5E2=16
x=4

6x^2-96=0 extract the common factor 6.
6(x^2-16)=0 factor the quadratic equation.
6(x+4)(x-4)=0 solve the two factors.
x+4=0
x=-4 ans.
x-4=0
x=4 ans.

6*4^2=96
