i) 3x - 5 > x + 13
Add 5 to both sides, eliminates -5 on the left
3x > x + 13 + 5
Subtract x from both sides
3x - x > 18
2x > 18
divide both sides by 2
x > 18%2F2
x > 9
:
ii) x^2 - 4x - 12 > 0
Factors to
(x-6)(x+2) > 0
x > 6; expression greater than 0 above +6
x < -2; expression is greater than 0 below -2
