Hello,
Clearing up what factor means is the clue.
Let's look at this problem:
4x5=20 Right?
Each of these have a name. 20 is the product, right? What is the name for 4 & 5?
They are called Factors.
So let's look at this problem:
x^2+5x+6=0 Notice when we factor it boils down to:
(x+3)(x+2)= 0
Notice we now have two factors. (x+3) is multiplying (x+2)
OK from here we solve for x.
