Question 308046: How do I solve and graph a quadratic equation?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Normally, you SOLVE a quadratic equation, like x^2-5x+4=0.

You GRAPH a quadratic function, like y=x^2 - 5x + 4.

Some quadratic equations can be solved by factoring. In the case of x^2-5x+4=0
it factors into (x-4)(x-1)=0, and there are two solutions: x=4 and x=1.

For a detailed explanation of solving quadratic equations by factoring, please see my website by clicking on my tutor name "rapaljer" anywhere in algebra.com. From my homepage, click on "Basic, Intermediate, and College Algebra: One Step at a Time." Click on "Basic Algebra", then "Chapter 2," and look for Section 2.09 Quadratic Equations by Factoring.

For quadratic equations that will NOT factor, go back to my "Basic, Intermediate, and College Algebra: One Step at a Time." Click on "Intermediate Algebra", Chapter 4 Section 4.03 Quadratic Formula.

For Quadratic Functions, from my Homepage, look for "MATH IN LIVING COLOR." Click on "College Algebra", "Section 2.03.
