To find the x-intercept let y = 0 and solve for "x":

x^2-4 = 0
(x-2)(x+2) = 0
x = 2 or x=-2 (these are the x-intercepts.

The vertex occurs at x = -b/2a = -0/2 = 0.
When x = 0, y = 0^2-4 = -4
