You can put this solution on YOUR website!
find the x and y intercepts of each line and write the equation in standard form:
y = 2%2F7x - 1
:
Find the y intercept (occurs when x = 0)
y = 2%2F7(0) - 1
y = -1
:
Find the x intercept (occurs when y = 0)
2%2F7x - 1 = 0
2%2F7x = + 1
multiply both sides by 7
2x = 7
Divide both sides by 2
x = 7%2F2
x = 3.5
:
Write in standard form
y = 2%2F7x - 1
Subtract 2%2F7x from both sides
y - 2%2F7x = - 1
Multiply by -7, (gets rid of the denominator and changes the signs)
-7y + 2x = + 7
which is the standard form
2x - 7y = 7
