Set it equal to 0.
x^2 + 8x + 7 = 0 (divided by -1)
The vertex is at x = -b/2a
x = -8/2 = -4
Solve for y, or f(x) by subbing -4 for x.
y = 16 - 32 + 7
y = -9

The vertex is (-4,-9)
