The problem is y= -x^2 - 8x - 7

You could answer this by completing the square or
by doing the following:

The vertex occurs where x = -b/(2a) = 8/(2*-1) = -4
The corresponding y-value is f(-4) = -16 +32 -7 = 9
The vertex is (-4,9)
