x%5E2%28x%2B1%29=0 Factor out the GCF x%5E2


Now set each factor equal to zero:

x%5E2=0 or x%2B1=0

x=0 or x=-1 Now solve for x in each case


So our answers are

x=0 or x=-1


Notice if we graph y=x%5E3%2Bx%5E2 we can see that the roots are x=0 and x=-1 . So this visually verifies our answer.
