You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4x^2-x+1=0
LOOKS LIKE YOU PRETTY WELL HAVE THE PROBLEM SOLVED
Using the quadratic formula:
x+=+%28-b+%2B-+sqrt%28+b%5E2-4%2Aa%2Ac+%29%29%2F%282%2Aa%29+
x+=+%281+%2B-+sqrt%28+1-16%29%29%2F%288%29+ =
x+=+%281+%2B-+sqrt%28-15%29%29%2F%288%29+ =
x+=+%281+%2B-+%28i%29sqrt%2815%29%29%2F%288%29+
----And that's about as far as you can go!
Good work!!!!!!!!!-----ptaylor

Let's see if your answer checks:
x+=+%281+%2B-sqrt%2815%29i%29%2F8
I'll plug 1 of these 2 answers back into the equation
4x%5E2+-+x+%2B+1+=+0
4%2A%28%281+%2B+sqrt%2815%29i%29%2F8%29%5E2+-+%281+%2B+sqrt%2815%29i%29%2F8+%2B+1+=+0
4%2A%281+%2B+2%2Asqrt%2815%29i+%2B+15%2Ai%5E2%29%2F64+-+1%2F8+-+sqrt%2815%29i%2F8+%2B+1+=+0
1%2F16+%2B+%28sqrt%2815%29i%29%2F8+-+15%2F16+-+1%2F8+-+sqrt%2815%29i%2F8+%2B+1+=+0
multiply both sides by 16
1+%2B+2%2A%28sqrt%2815%29i%29+-+15+-+2+-+2%2A%28sqrt%2815%29i%29+%2B+16+=+0
1+-+15+-+2+%2B+16+=+0
17+-+17+=+0
The other root should check out, too. I'll let you do it.

And the place you arrived is a very fine place to be indeed in view of the fact that you have simplified the expression as far as possible and

are the exact roots of the given equation. Some purists might expect this to be expressed in complex number form, making your answer:

But if someone at this stage of your mathematics education were to insist upon it, you might be well justified to reply with an eye-roll and a "whatever." The only other thing I can think of is to separate the plus/minus and show the two conjugates as separate entities if your instructor insists, but again, it hardly makes a difference IMHO.

Anything else you might do to this would only result in a numerical approximation of the answer. Good job, Heather.
