Question 143691: 5> -2x +4 or 11<_ -5x +4
Choose the solution of the inequality.
A) (-1/2,oo)
b) (-oo, -7/5]
c) (-oo, -7/5] u (-1/2,oo)
All parenthisis above are all the bigger ones that i do not have on this computer. The are more longated than the regular parenthisis.
D) (-oo,oo)
The above parenthisis is the only normal paranthesis. The oo looks like a 'sideways or laying down 8.
Can someone please oh please help me with this problem I do not unstand this at all, no matter how many time i have read the chapter, i still dont get it..

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5%3E-2x%2B4 Start with the first inequality

0%3E-2x%2B4-5Subtract 5 from both sides

%2B2x%3E4-5 Add 2x to both sides

2x%2B0%3E-1 Combine like terms on the right side

x%3E%28-1%29%2F%282%29 Divide both sides by 2 to isolate x

x%3E-1%2F2 Reduce

So our answer is x%3E-1%2F2 which looks like in interval notation

--------------------------------------------------

11%3C=-5x%2B4 Now move onto the second inequality

0%3C=-5x%2B4-11Subtract 11 from both sides

%2B5x%3C=4-11 Add 5x to both sides

5x%2B0%3C=-7 Combine like terms on the right side

x%3C=%28-7%29%2F%285%29 Divide both sides by 5 to isolate x

x%3C=-7%2F5 Reduce

So our answer is x%3C=-7%2F5 which looks like (] in interval notation.

Now combine the two solutions sets to get

(]

note: the "sideways 8" is the infinity symbol.

So the answer is choice c)
