Question 1388: I am in Algebra 1
I am confused about my homework.
f(x)= - 2/3 (x+2)^2 +1 This is one of the problems. I have to tell whether the parabola is going upward or downward. Then idenify A,H,K and vertex and give a rough draft of the graph.
We just learned this and I have 36 problems to do. We are not to follow the books instructions but the above instructions instead. I am lost! Can you get me started. Thank you. Another problem is f(x)= x^2+3

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
first look at the vertex form of a quadratic equation:
y = a(x-h)^2+k
So actually you can easily find what a,h,k is in the equation
f(x) = -2/3(x+2)^2+1
a = -2/3
h = -2
k = 1
and the parabola is opening downward because when a is a positive number, the parabola opens upward, when it is a negative number, it is opening downward.

And this is the graph
