Question 137938: Please help me solve the quadratic equation. I Have to show whether concave up or concave down? Thanks!
y= -(x-2)^2
Answer by dolly(163) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi,
Given y = -(x-2)^2
To show if the graph is concave up or down, you do not have to solve it necessarily.
The given equation is y = -(x^2-4x+4) [ on expansion ]
= -x^2 + 4x - 4
As the quadratic term , that is x^2 term is negative, the graph is concave down.
Positive implies concave up and negative concave down.
Hope it is clear.
