Hi,
Given y = -(x-2)^2
To show if the graph is concave up or down, you do not have to solve it necessarily.
The given equation is y = -(x^2-4x+4) [ on expansion ]
= -x^2 + 4x - 4
As the quadratic term , that is x^2 term is negative, the graph is concave down.
Positive implies concave up and negative concave down.
