Question 134062: I got the answer to the maximum height o the arch but I am unable to find the width of the arch at he base, could I please get help with that? Thanks in advance.
Owachomo Natural Bridge is found in Natural Bridges National Monument in Utah. If the origin is located at one end of the natural arch, the curve can be modelled by the equation.h = -0.043d sqaured + 2.365dwhere h metres is the height of the arch, and d metres is the horizontal distance from the origin.a) What is the maximum height of the arch, to the nearest hundredth of a metre?b) What is the width of the arch at the base?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
What is the value of h at the base? that's right 0.
So you need to find the two places where the function yileds a 0 result
Given: h+=+-0.043d%5E2+%2B+2.365d+
h+=+d%28-0.043d+%2B+2.365%29+
0+=+d%28-0.043d+%2B+2.365%29+
This equation is zero when either term on the right is 0
That yields d=0 and (-0.043d + 2.365)=0
%28-0.043d+%2B+2.365%29=0
+-0.043d+=+-2.365
+d+=+55+
So the base is 55 metres wide.
