Question 131615: my book says to "write the equation of the axis of symmetry, and find the coordinates of the vertex of the graph of each function. identify the vertex as a maaximum or minimum. then graph the function" then it says
y=4x^2

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
my book says to "write the equation of the axis of symmetry, and find the coordinates of the vertex of the graph of each function. identify the vertex as a maaximum or minimum. then graph the function" then it says
y=4x^2
--------------
There are many ways to find the axis symmetry.
Your equation can be written as y = 4x^2+0x+0
a = 4, b= 0, c= 0
-----------
The axis of symmetry occurs where x = -b/2a = -0/8 = 0
The corresponding y-value is y = 4(0)^2 = 0
-------------------
So, the axis is x = 0 (this is the y-axis)
The vertex is (0,0)
The parabola opens upward because 4 is positive.
