Lina has a rectangular frame that surrounds a 4x6 inch picture. the frame has a strip of uniform width, x inches, around the outside. the area of the strip is 24 square inches The area of the strip.
A. Rewrite the definition of x
B.What is the area of the inner rectangle?
C. If the area of the strip is 24 inches, what is the width of the strip in inches?

Picture dimensions, 4 inch by 6 inch
Whole area of picture AND frame, 4%2B2x by 6%2B2x. Uniform width of the frame strip is x.

You are given, area of the frame is 24 square inches, and notice this is the same size area as the picture.

Whole Area minus Picture Area equals the 24 square inches frame area.
Can you see what to do with this?

2%2A2%28x%2B2%29%28x%2B3%29-2%2A2%2A6=2%2A2%2A6
%28x%2B2%29%28x%2B3%29-6=6
%28x%2B2%29%28x%2B3%29=12---------You may be able to do this using factoring, without dealing with quadratic equation formula/solutions. Factors of 12 are 3 and 4. The value for x must be 1 inch.
