You can put this solution on YOUR website!

let the number of rows be x
the number of seats in each row will be x+%2B+7
total number of seats is 1394

x+%28x+%2B+7%29+=+1394
x%5E2+%2B+7x+-+1394+=+0
%28x+-+34%29+%28x+%2B+41%29+=+0
x+=+34
or
x=-41+ (reject, answer cannot be negative)

Therefore,
x+=+34+
x+%2B+7+=+34%2B7=41
the number of seats in each row is 34

A rectangular auditorium seats 1394 people. The number of seats in each row exceeds the number of rows by 7. Find the number of seats in each row
Let number of seats in each row be S
Then number or rows = S - 7
We then get the following NUMBER-OF-SEATS equation: S(S - 7) = 1,394
                                              matrix%281%2C3%2C+S%5E2+-+7S+-+%221%2C394%22%2C+%22=%22%2C+0%29
                                            (S - 41)(S + 34) = 0

        Number of seats in each row, or S = 41 OR S = - 34 (ignore)
