x%5E2-10x%2B10=0

Isolate the variable terms by
adding -10 to both sides:

x%5E2-10x=-10

To the side, multiply the coefficient of x by 1%2F2.
                      %28-10%29%281%2F2%29=-5

Now square -5. %28-5%29%5E2=25

Add 25 to both sides of this: x%5E2-10x=-10

x%5E2-10x%2B25=-10%2B25

Combine the right side: -10%2B25=15

x%5E2-10x%2B25=15

Factor the left side:

%28x-5%29%28x-5%29=15

Write the left side as the square of
a binomial:

%28x-5%29%5E2=15

Take the square root of both sides,
remembering the ± on the right:

sqrt%28%28x-5%29%5E2%29+=+%22%22+%2B-sqrt%2815%29

x-5=%22%22+%2B-+sqrt%2815%29

Add 5 to both sides:

x=5+%2B-+sqrt%2815%29

x%5E2-10x%2B10=0

Form is as x%5E2%2Bbx%2Bc=0.
Completing the Square is add %28b%2F2%29%5E2 to both sides of the equation. This is, for your example, %28-10%2F2%29%5E2=25.
Continue from there.
