they should get the same result, but the method is different.
factoring is one method of finding the square roots.
use of the quadratic equation is another.
factoring by squaring is another.
all different methods with the same purpose, that purpose being to find the roots of the quadratic equation.
you can also find the roots by graphing.
of all the methods, the quadratic equation finds you all the roots, whether they are real or not.
