You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2x^2 +5x +3 = 0
:
divide both sides of = by 2
:
x^2 +(5x/2) +(3/2) = 0
:
subtract (3/2) from both sides of =
:
x^2 +(5x/2) = (-3/2)
:
divide (5/2) by 2 and square it, (25/16), add (25/16) to both sides of =
:
x^2 +(5x/2) +(25/16) = (-3/2) + (25/16) = (1/16)
:
(x +(5/4))^2 = (1/16)
:
take square root of both sides of =
:
x +(5/4) = + or - (1/4)
:
We have two answers for x
:
*************************
x = +(1/4) -(5/4) = -1
:
x = -(1/4) -(5/4) = -1.5
:
check the answers with
:
2x^2 +5x +3 = 0
:
1) x = -1
2(-1)^2 +5(-1) +3 = 0
2 -5 +3 = 0
0 = 0
:
2) x = -1.5
2(-1.5)^2 +5(-1.5) +3 = 0
4.5 -7.5 +3 = 0
0 = 0
:
