By the quadratic formula,

x=%28-1%2B-sqrt%284%2B4%29%29%2F%282%29
x=%28-1%2B-+sqrt%282%2A+sqrt%282%29%29%29%2F%282%29
These are the roots.

Differentiating y,

0=2x%2B2
-2=2x
x=-1
Solving for y,

2-4-2=y
