You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2x%5E2%2B4x-2+=0
x%5E2%2B2x-1=0

By the quadratic formula,

x=%28-1%2B-sqrt%282%5E2-4%2A1%2A%28-1%29%29%29%2F%282%2A1%29
x=%28-1%2B-sqrt%284%2B4%29%29%2F%282%29
x=%28-1%2B-+sqrt%282%2A+sqrt%282%29%29%29%2F%282%29
These are the roots.

Look at my lesson entitled,"Shortcut in finding the vertex of any parabola"
Differentiating y,
dy%2Fdx=2x%2B2
0=2x%2B2
-2=2x
x=-1
Solving for y,
2x%5E2%2B4x-2+=0
2-4-2=y
y=-4
Therefore, the VERTEX Is at (-1,-4)
