.
y=-6x^2-1
Set the first derivative =0:
-12x=0
x=0
The x value at the minimum/maximum is 0
Use 0 as x and solve for y:
y=-6x^2-1
y=-6(0)^2-1
y=-1
The minimum/maximum is at (0,-1)
To find if it is minimum or maximum find the second derivative:
f(x)=6x^2-1 . (equation)
f'(x)=-12x . (first derivative)
f''(x)=-12 . (second derivative)
The value of the second derivative is negative, so the function
has a minimum at (0,-1) (if the value were positive, the function
would have a maximum at that point)
