Question 978386: Need help solving this quadratic equation. Please include steps on how to solve. Thank you.
Imagine standing on the roof of a 1450-foot Tower. When you throw a baseball upward from the roof of the tower, the ball’s height above the ground, H (in feet), can be described as a function of the time, t (in seconds), since the ball was dropped. This height function is defined by
H(t) = -16t2 + 80t +1450
Identify the vertical intercept and what does it mean in the context of the problem
After the baseball is thrown, how long will it take till the ball hits the ground?

Your answer to question #2 identifies one horizontal intercept of the equation. Identify another horizontal intercept and discuss whether it makes sense in the context of the problem.
Find the vertex of the equation and interpret its meaning in the context of the problem.
At what time(s) is the ball 1500 feet above the ground?

b.) Explain why the total unshaded area is q
c.) Write an equation stating that the area of the largest square

Question 979810: Would someone please clarify my math on this?
The quadratic equation came out to: 4+/- 2 times radical 10, all divided by 4.
To solve, I divided each term in the numerator by 4, yielding 1 +/- radical 10 divided by 2.
However, the solution factored the 4 in the numerator and denominator, then canceled out three 2s to yield 2 +/- radical 10, all divided by 2.
They both calculate out to the same thing. But, so that I don't make future mistakes, it seems that either the solution didn't go all the way, or I did something that may have worked here, but is in fact wrong and may not work in the future.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Question 980221: I really need help with the detail of solving this problem. Can someone please show me the step by step process in figuring out this problem?
I have tried to calculate it many times and cannot for the life of me come up with the correct answer.
I am familiar with the quadratic formula but for some reason cannot get it to work for this problem.
“An object is thrown directly upward from a starting height of 25 ft and a starting velocity of 85 ft per second. The following function describes the height of the object with respect to the time, t.”
h(t) = -16t2 + 85t + 25
How long does it take before the object reaches the ground? Round you answer to
the nearest hundredths place.
The answer is 5.59.
