Question 779053: One student scored 1 on a test, two scored 2, three scored 3, four scored 4, and x scored 5. If the average score was 3.75, what is x? I guess I have been working on math too long I am lost as to how to set this problem up. I have come to the equation of (30+5x)/ 3.75, is this right and do i add 30 to 3.75 then divide by 5 to get x = 6.75? It doesn't seem righ at all...

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
g (score): 1 2 3 4 5
f (frequency): 1 2 3 4 x
average = 3.75 = sum(g*f)/sum(f)
3.75 = (30+5x)/(10+x)
Solve this for x
the answer is x = 6
that means 6 students scored 5
