You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Step 1: Combine like terms (add 6 and subtract 1 from both sides): -2%28x%2B5%29%5E2+=+20.
Divide both sides by -2: %28x%2B5%29%5E2+=+-10 The equation is now factored into a solvable form.

Square root both sides: %28x%2B5%29+=+-sqrt%28-10%29 and%28x%2B5%29=sqrt%28-10%29 ---> x%2B5+=+i%2Asqrt%2810%29 and x%2B5+=+-i%2Asqrt%2810%29 subtract 5 from both sides x+=+-5%2B+i%2Asqrt%2810%29and x+=+-5-+i%2Asqrt%2810%29

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Isolate the square
1 - 2(x+5)^2 - 6 = 15
1 - 2(x+5)^2 - 6 + 6 = 15 + 6
1 - 2(x+5)^2 = 21
1 - 2(x+5)^2 - 1 = 21 - 1
-2(x+5)^2 = 20
%28-2%28x%2B5%29%5E2%29%2F%28-2%29+=+20%2F-2
...
(x+5)^2 = -10
...
Take square root of both sides
sqrt%28x%2B5%29%5E2 = +/- sqrt%28-10%29
x+5 = +/- sqrt%28-10%29
x+5 = +/- i%2Asqrt%2810%29
...
Isolate the variable
x = -5 +/- i%2Asqrt%2810%29
...
Two solutions
highlight_green%28x+=+-5+%2B+i%2Asqrt%2810%29%29
AND
highlight_green%28x+=+-5+-+i%2Asqrt%2810%29%29
