#2 A wire 60 inches long is cut into two pieces whose lengths have a ratio of 3 to 1. To find the length of each piece, let x be the length of the shorter piece. Since the wire is 60 inches long, and since the shorter piece is x inches long, what is the length of each piece...??
its confusing me...help...

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. complementary means they add up to 90 degrees.
Ratio is 4:1 --> total 5 multiply this up by 18 to make the 5 into 90:
ratio is now 72:18 --> total 90

so, the 2 angles are 72 and 18 degrees.

2. wire has ratio 3:1 --> total is 60inches.

Let x be shorter piece, so we have x and 3x and these together add together to give 60, so mathematically, we have 3x+x = 60

4x = 60
x = 60/4
--> x= 15 inches
and so longer piece is 45 inches.
