Question 408949: What does it mean when you need to find the "sum" of the solutions to an equation? the equation is 8x squared + 6x + 1. Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
The same thing it means to find the sum of any set of things -- add them.
This is a quadratic equation, therefore it has two elements in its solution set (or, at worst, a single element with a multiplicity of 2). Solve the equation for its two roots and add them.
