You can put this solution on YOUR website!
John likes dark coffe beans, which cost $8.50/kg. Brad likes mild coffe beans which cost $9.20/kg. They buy a 5.5kg made from a blend of both type of beans that cost $48.50. How many kg of each type of bean went into the mixture?
--------
Equations
Weight Eq:::::d + m = 5.5 kg
Value Eq::::8.5d + 9.2m = 48.5
-----------------------------------
Multiply thru 1st by 85
Multiply thru 2nd by 10
-------------------------------
85d + 85m = 85*5.5
85d + 92m = 485
-------------------------------
Subtract 1st from 2nd and solve for "m":
7m = 17.5
m = 2.5 kg (weight of mild coffee in the mixture)
-----
Since d+m = 5.5, m = 3 kg (weight of dark coffee in the mixture)
