Question 1163246: Please help me with this question please.
*A Civil Engineer is designing paving around a rectangular pool measuring, L x W (in metres). The paving is to be the same width, x (in metres), around all sides of the pool (still forming a rectangle). Use the quadratic formula to algebraically determine the width of the walkway based on having A m^2 of paving.
Hint: Do not substitute values and then attempt to solve. The values of the variables are not known. Also please include a diagram.
Thank you

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The area of combined pool and surrounding paving is %28L%2B2x%29%28W%2B2x%29.
Area of only the pool is LW.

%28L%2B2x%29%28W%2B2x%29-LW=A, according to the description.

A little bit of algebra should bring that to highlight_green%284x%5E2%2B%282L%2B2W%29x-A=0%29.
You can use general solution for quadratic equation to solve for an expression for x.
