We can make an equation that would fit the description like this:
(20+x)(30+x)=1064 Multiply this out looks like:
x^2+50x+600=1064 Subtract both sides by 1065 gives us:
x^2+50x-464=0 This can be factored as:
(x-8)(x+58)=0 Therefore the answers are:
x=8
x=-58 -58 won't make sense so 8 cm is the answer.
Plug 8 cm into the original equation and it should be correct.
